Crystal Palace will return to action after the inaugural Premier League winter break and they will host Newcastle at Selhurst Park. The Eagles signed off with a 3-1 defeat away at Everton leaving them 14th on 30 points, one behind their opponents Newcastle who are 13th after a 4-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium to Arsenal last weekend.
Roy Hodgson’s Palace have been resting on their laurels in 2020 and if they are not careful, they could be roped in to a relegation tussle at the wrong end of the table. The Londoners have just one league win in 11 matches but they are still six points clear of the drop and six points off 8th place Wolves at the same time. A run of wins or a run of defeats could make or break their season but they have are winless in three when hosting and have lost their last two games at home without scoring. They are the league’s lowest scorers with an average of 0.88 goals per game and that is an area where Palace have struggled all season. This venue rarely produces many goals either with an average of 1.8 goals per game this season we could be looking at a dull affair here. Furthermore, just two of the 13 games played here this season have produced over 2.5 goals.
For Newcastle, they need to get back to winning ways also. Their win over Chelsea is their only win in five in the Premier League and they are without a victory in three matches. The Magpies have also gone five games without a win on the road in the league and they have taken just 11 points from a possible 39 on the road this term. Newcastle have registered just three victories on their travels in this campaign and they haven’t won at this ground in five attempts.
I expect this match to be a drab encounter with two sides struggling for form. I think this game will be a draw but in terms of betting I see under 2.5 goals as a great tip here.
