Chelsea are on the rise and will be hoping to cement their top four place on Wednesday when they host Arsenal in a midweek London derby. The Blues are third in the league standings with 64 points, 12 above ninth placed Arsenal. Chelsea are coming from a 2-1 win over Manchester City in another top performance for the team under German coach Thomas Tuchel. They are unbeaten in seven matches across all competitions while in the Premier League, they have three clean sheets in the last four league matches. In the last eight league matches at home, Chelsea have lost just once and kept seven clean sheets. They’ve managed to score two or more goals in five of seven home matches in the league.
Arsenal on the other hand, continued with their inconsistent season by beating West Bromwich Albion in their last game. They have European ambitions but those are so slim, being six points below fifth place with three matches to play. Any result other than a win for Arsenal will effectively end their European ambitions. Somehow, they head to this game unbeaten in the last three matches across all competitions and in the Premier League they have three wins in the last five matches. Away from home, Arsenal are unbeaten in the last five league matches, with three wins. They’ve scored two or more goals in four of the five away matches and head here with two straight clean sheets. Going to this game the Gunners will be without Granit Xhaka, David Luiz and Pablo Mari, all who are injured.
Arsenal have had a poor season, though they did beat Chelsea earlier in the season. This game means more to Chelsea than Arsenal, with the Gunners’ chances of a top five finish very slim. Chelsea have been scoring well and keeping lots of clean sheets. We expect the same here so go for a Chelsea win.
