Matchday 15 in La Liga sees relegation-threatened Sevilla taking on Celta Vigo at the Abanca-Balaidos with both teams desperate for points to move up the standings. The visiting Sevilla have had to endure a disastrous first 14 matches of the league season where they have recorded only two wins, five draws and seven defeats to put them in 18th-place with just 11 points. Sevilla, who finished in fourth-place for the last three consecutive seasons, face an uphill battle as we near the halfway mark if they are to somehow qualify for European football. They have no time to waste and must start putting wins on the board. Los Nervionenses are coming off two consecutive Copa del Rey wins in their last two competitive fixtures. A 3-0 away win over Juventud Torremolinos which was preceded by a 2-0 away win over Velarde. The wins will come as a much needed confidence boost for Jorge Sampaoli’s side who had previously lost three of the last four competitive matches.
They’ll have to overcome a Celta Vigo side coming off two cup wins of their own which should put them in good spirits ahead of this crucial clash. Los Celestes are still adapting to new manager Carlos Carvalhal’s system but the 57-year-old Portuguese has had a positive start to life in Vigo, winning two, drawing one and losing once in his first four matches in charge which included blasting six goals past Cd Algar in a cup match. Celta Vigo are on an ugly run of form in the league, winless in their last seven matches with five defeats and only two points to show. Fans will be hopeful that the team’s improved home performances this season will see them get the full points as they have only suffered three losses in seven matches when playing on their home pitch.
Both teams will be out looking for the three points which hopefully leads to chances on both ends. Sevilla and Celta Vigo have each had their offensive struggles this season with only 27 league goals scored between the two teams. However, with each team’s defensive struggles we should see them both able to get on the scoresheet for this match. Our prediction for Celta Vigo vs Sevilla is both teams to score.
