River Plate posted a massive win over Union in their last game and will be hoping that this marks the start of a great run in the Argentinian topflight. They are placed 14th in the league with five points from four matches, same to 17th placed Lanus, who visit them on Match Day 5 of the second phase of the season. River Plate are coming from a 5-1 away win at Union. Julian Alvarez, who has been linked with Manchester City scored twice in that game – his seventh and eighth goals in five matches. He will definitely be the man to watch here. His form doesn’t, however, mask the fact that River Plate have failed to score in three of their last four matches. In the league, they’ve managed just one win in the last five matches.
Lanus are also coming from a win, though theirs wasn’t as comprehensive as River Plate’s. They claimed a 1-0 victory over Colon, at home, which was also their first win since the start of the second phase. They’ve failed to score more than a goal in the last five matches, but they’ve only conceded more than a goal in one of the five games. Their away run hasn’t been great either; they go into this game without a win in four. Lanus lost 2-1 to Atletico Tucuman in the last away game, having earlier drawn three straight away matches. Three of their last five away matches have produced under 2.5 goals with two clean sheets.
River Plate haven’t been quite convincing in the second phase of the league, and neither has Lanus. Most of their matches have shown a shortage in attack and there’s reason to imagine the same will be the case here. Go for under 2.5 goals.
