Four points separate Burnley and Newcastle United ahead of this round 17 fixture of the English Premier League. Burnley are 13th with 18 points, while Newcastle are 11th with 22 points.
The hosts need to get out of their slump, having lost their last three matches. However, two of those were to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur which isn’t all too bad. Further to that, Burnley have lost six of their last eight Premier League matches. Regardless, Burnley’s home record in the division has been relatively impressive. The ‘Clarets’ have won four of their eight home league matches with their 12 points constituting two-thirds of their total season tally. To go with that, Burnley have scored 12 of their 21 Premier League goals at home this season. That included scoring at least twice in four of their eight Premier League home fixtures.
Newcastle have surprised quite a few of their own supporters with their campaign that puts them seven points above the relegation zone. The ‘Magpies’ have been in impressive form coming into this fixture winning four of their last six league games. However, scoring remains a concern for the visitors with just 17 goals to their tally. That is the joint-third lowest scoring record of the division. Playing away from home has been a concern, with five losses in eight Premier League away trips. Regardless, they have witnessed a result in each of their eight away league matches. In three of their last five away Premier League matches, Newcastle have failed to score a goal while managing just one clean sheet.
Burnley have lost three in a row and six of their last eight in the Premier League. Additionally, they have conceded nine goals in their last two, which remains a concern. Newcastle United, on the other hand, are in remarkable form at the moment. They have picked up 14 of the last 21 available points and are remarkably just two points off the fifth. The ‘Magpies’ could come out of this trip with at least a point.
