Last week Burnley ended Liverpool’s 68-game unbeaten run in the Premier League at Anfield with a 1-0 win that took them to 15th in the table onto 19 points. The Clarets took that momentum into the FA Cup at the weekend as they progressed to the next round with a convincing 3-0 win away at Fulham. Now they welcome high-flying Ason Villa to Turf Moor with Villa hoping to build on their own win from Saturday. The visitors were in Premier League action over the weekend as they were knocked out of the FA Cup in the 3rd round and they saw off Newcastle 2-0 to move into 8th, with another two games in hand left to play over those around them.
Burnley have now won two of their last four league matches and two of their last three at Turf Moor to give them a platform to survive for yet another season. Victory over Fulham secured back-to-back victories for Sean Dyche’s side for the first time since July and now back on home soil they will be hoping to build on a steady home record they have put together of late. The hosts were narrowly beaten by league-leaders Manchester United just a fortnight ago and perhaps would have been good for a point but they had won three of their four home games prior to that defeat and drew the other 1-1 with Everton.
Aston Villa returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over struggling Newcastle on Saturday night. Villa took another step towards European football by winning one of their games in hand and they will be looking to record a victory here at Turf Moor for the second consecutive season. The visitors traveled here last January and picked up all three points with a 2-1 win but they are without a win in three on the road. However, those three games were away at Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City whereas they have beaten each of the three teams they have played in the bottom half of the table away from home.
