Burgos v Eibar Betting Tips [8 December 2022]

Matchday 19 in the Spanish LaLiga SmartBank sees second-place Burgos hosting sixth-place Eibar at El Plantio Stadium. Burgos have been one of the surprise teams of the Spanish second division season as they continue their promotion push after an 11th-place finish last season. If they were to succeed in their goal this year, it would mark the first time since 1993 that the Burgaleses have competed in the top tier. The hosts have nine wins, seven draws and two defeats on the season, giving them 34 points – even with third-place Alaves and trailing first-place Las Palmas by only a single point. Their last result was a 2-1 away win against Ponferradina on Monday. 

Standing in their way is an Eibar team that is looking to improve upon their mediocre away form to move up in the playoff standings. Last season’s third-place finishers currently hold the sixth spot in the SmartBank table with eight wins, six draws and four defeats, putting them on 30 points and only four behind their opponents today. Los Armeros are coming off a 2-1 home win over Huesca but have only managed one win from their last three league matches. They have an extra day of rest over their opponent today, with their last match coming on Sunday. 

Eibar have been excellent at home this season, posting an unbeaten record and winning six of their nine matches. However, it’s been a different story for Basque club on the road, where they have managed to win just two of their nine trips, drawing three and losing the other four. They’ll have to improve on that form if they are to get a result in this match against a high-flying Burgos side that have lost just once in their nine home matches this season. With the way both teams have been playing in regards to their respective home and away form, combined with Eibar's stellar defense, backing the hosts to get the win looks like the way to go here.

It’s hard to look past the hosts here with how well they have been playing this season, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Eibar have, to their credit, also been in a strong run of form with only one loss in the last seven league matches. However, they have struggled away from home this season and will be in for a tough test here against the stingiest defense in the league.
