Aberdeen were shaken a bit in the last round of the Europa Conference League by Hacken but despite a 2-0 return leg loss, they sailed through 5-3 on aggregate. A strong start to the tie saved them and now they start the third qualifying round with an away game in Iceland against Breidablik. The hosts had a key win at home over Austria Vienna in the last round, the two having drawn 1-1 in the first leg. They go to this game on the back of two wins, the most recent a 4-0 victory over Vikingur Reykjavik in the domestic league. That is their only clean sheet in the last five matches though they’ve failed to score in just one of those five matches. Both sides have scored in three of Breidablik’s last five matches while only the last two have produced over 2.5 goals. In the last 10 matches, they have six wins and have only failed to score in two of them, while at home, they have a solid run, of eight straight wins with seven clean sheets and just one goal conceded. In each of the eight home matches, Breidablik have scored two or more goals.
Aberdeen warmed up for this game with a 2-0 win over Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership. That win, coming right after the 2-0 loss to Hacken served a good confidence boost ahead of this key game and they will be hoping to get the first leg advantage here. A run of just three wins in 10 matches however doesn’t reflect well on their chances as they head to a game against a side so good at home. In their last 11 matches, they’ve kept just two clean sheets. The loss to Hacken was their first away match this season but even before that, they had suffered a 4-0 loss to Rangers and will need massive improvement to see off Breidablik.
Breidablik head into this game on a much better run compared to Aberdeen and playing at home will work for them too, looking at their results and scoring run at their backyard. Back the home team for a win.
