It's often been said that the World Cup finals don't really begin until Brazil play their first match. The favorites to lift the trophy begin their Group G fixture against Serbia. Serbia will be looking for revenge on Brazil. They lost 2-0 to the South Americans in the group stages of the 2018 World Cup. They had a good qualification campaign, finishing above Portugal to win their group. The group was won by three points and they did it the hard way. They were level on points with Portugal but had to play them away in the final group match. Serbia trailed 1-0 but fought back to win with a last gasp goal to automatically qualify. It's noticeable that of their eight qualifiers, both teams scored and they conceded more goals than both Portugal and Ireland. The Serbs haven't made it out of their group since 1998. There have been three group stage eliminations since then with seven out of nine games lost. 2022 has gone well for them and they won promotion to League A in the Nations League. They have won five of their last six games with the opposition including Sweden, Norway and Slovenia. There's only been one clean sheet in the last four played, so keeping Brazil out looks beyond them. Back Brazil to win this game.

Brazil are the favorites to win the 2022 World Cup. Their squad is so powerful and it's not just about scoring goals galore. They do that but also have a strong defence. Only five goals conceded in 17 World Cup qualifiers is highly impressive considering the standard in that group. Brazil take on Serbia who did well to win their qualifying group. They also won promotion in the Nations League but concede too many goals. Back Brazil to win this and have a side bet on there being a penalty scored.
