The match

Miami Heat continued their improbable run with a win in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals and stand just a win away from reaching the NBA Finals, although Boston Celtics would be looking to get back into reckoning.

Heat needed OT to defeat the Celtics 117-114 in Game 1, but that gave them the right momentum to defy the odds. A 106-101 win in Game 2 followed, although the Celtics stormed back into contention with a 117-106 win in Game 3. The Game 4 result could have been decisive if the Celtics won and levelled the series, but Heat won the fourth game 112-109 to retain the advantage.

A win in this match will mark Heat’s fifth entry to the NBA Finals in the last ten years. The signs are positive, as four Heat players scored 20+ points in Game 3. It was the rookie Tyler Herro, though, who shone the best. He picked up a game-high 37 points off the bench and took the game away from the Celtics. Another bright spot for the Heat was Jimmy Butler, who got back his mojo with 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Boston needed a win in Game 4 to level things up, but they were behind from the start. They trailed by as many as 12 points in the second-half and would have lost by a larger margin. Jason Tatum, who was held scoreless in the first-half for the first time all season came out firing in the second-half scoring 28 points. However, that only helped in erasing the double-digit deficit into a more respectable single-digit losing margin. Together with Jayle Brown, he has scored at least 20 points in nine of the 15 playoff games so far.

Key Statistics

  • Heat are looking to make it to their fifth NBA Finals in the last ten years.
  • Heat have taken a 3-1 lead in a best-of-seven series 11 previous times and they have won each of those.
  • Celtics have lost five of their last six playoff games against the Heat and six of their last nine playoff games.

The bet of our experts

Miami Heat deserved the 3-1 lead and Boston Celtics have all the running to do in this match. History is also on the side of Miami, who have won the previous 11 occasions they have taken such lead in a seven-match series. The Heat continue to confound the critics and we believe that they will close the series out with a win in this match.
