The third matchday of the German Bundesliga sees Borussia Dortmund looking for their third consecutive win when they host Werder Bremen at the Signal Iduna Park. Last season’s runners-up have taken six points from a possible six after a 1-0 win over Leverkusen to open the season was followed up with a 3-1 away win over Freiburg the last time out. Edin Terzic’s men will try to stay perfect in their uphill battle to dethrone rivals Bayern and prevent the Bavarians from lifting an 11th consecutive league title. The visiting Bremen come into this match still seeking their first league win of the season after two consecutive 2-2 draws to kick off the new campaign. The four-time Bundesliga champions won promotion from the second division last season and will be looking to consolidate their top flight status in the 2022/23 season.
The 2021/22 season saw Borussia Dortmund as the most entertaining home side as their matches at the Signal Iduna Park were often back-and-forth, high-scoring encounters. BVB held the highest average of total goals scored at 4.71 per match in front of the home fans and would end the season with 13 of their 17 home league matches seeing both teams find the net. Even though the first match of the new season finished in a 1-0 win, Leverkusen were not without their chances as Die Werkself squandered two clear cut chances while the hosts could’ve easily had a few more, ending the match with three clear cut chances created. Dortmund could struggle to keep Werder Bremen off the score sheet considering they also conceded two clear cut chances to Freiburg last time out while the Bremen have looked solid on the offensive side in the early days.
