Borussia Dortmund are hot on the tails of Bayern Munich as they finally bid to put an end to Bayern’s stranglehold on the Meisterschale. Dortmund trail the league leaders by a point and are in second with 18 points after eight matches winning five of their last six Bundesliga matches. They welcome a Cologne side still awaiting their first win in the league since the beginning of March and as a result are currently second from bottom with just three points from a possible 24.
Dortmund ultimately fell 13 points behind Bayern as the Reds picked up their eighth successive title last season. After losing 3-2 to Bayern before the international break, the Black and Yellows returned to winning ways by defeating Hertha Berlin 5-2 in a game which seen Erling Braut Haaland score four second-half goals. The striker was on hand to score twice again in midweek as Dortmund sunk Club Brugge 3-0 in the Champions League at the Signal Iduna Park. That was Lucien Favre’s side fifth win in six home games this season and they have scored 15 goals during that time with Erling Haaland scoring nine goals across those six matches.
As for Cologne they are still waiting on a league win after 18 attempts since a 2-1 win at Paderborn on the 6th of March. Markus Gisdol has seen his side lose 11 of those matches including their last outing at home to Union Berlin where they were beaten 2-1. Away from home they have drawn each of their last two games 1-1 at Weder Bremen and Stuttgart but they are without a win at Dortmund since 1991 and have lost their last two games here whilst conceding five goals in each.
