Only two points separate the top-three teams in Group ‘F’ of the UEFA Champions League making this match between Borussia Dortmund and Club Brugge a key fixture in the overall scheme of things. Dortmund are top of the group with six points after three matches, while Brugge are third with four points. Sandwiched between them is Lazio with five points.
Dortmund defeated Brugge 3-0 in their previous Champions League making it two in two games combined with a 2-0 win over Lazio. The Germans would be keen to make it three wins in a row in the competition, something which they had done in 2018. Playing at home, though, is a completely different proposition. Dortmund have won their last four Champions League home matches and have scored at least two goals in each of those.
Brugge travel here with the loss in the reverse fixture being their only loss in the Champions League campaign this season. The Belgians started with a 2-1 away win against Zenit and followed it up with a 1-1 home draw against Lazio. The 3-0 loss to Dortmund in the reverse fixture means Brugge have now won only one of its last nine matches in the competition. Four of the last five matches in that sequence has seen goals at both ends which could be the case here. Brugge’s away form in the Champions League has been impressive, though. The lost only one of their last eight away games in the competition – winning three and drawing four.
Borussia Dortmund and Club Brugge know very well how important is this match is, especially as a win for the visitors can turn the group upside down. With the kind of firepower at their disposal, Dortmund should fancy their chances of a strong result. We are backing this match to have at least three goals.
