Bayern Munich look to continue their perfect start to the season with a trip to the Vonovia Ruhrstadion to take on VfL Bochum in the third matchday of the German Bundesliga. The champions will surely carry with them extra incentive with a chance for revenge after suffering a shocking 4-2 defeat in this fixture last season. Although it ultimately wouldn’t change much in the grand scheme of things as Bayern would go on to win their 10th consecutive league title. The hosts will be looking to catch lightning in a bottle for a second consecutive time as they seek their first points of the 2022/23 season after falling to back-to-back defeats. Bayern, on the other hand, will be hoping to keep up their red-hot scoring form that has seen them score 13 goals throughout the first three competitive matches of the season. The Bavarians put five goals past RB Leipzig in the Super Cup, which was then followed up by a six goal thrashing of Frankfurt and a routine 2-0 win over Wolfsburg.
Bochum will be hoping to put forward an improved defensive performance this time out which was one of the pillars to their 13th-place league finish last season. Die Unabsteigbaren were 8-4-5 at home last season and their 17 goals conceded was tied for the third-best home defensive record in the league. For their defensive success last season, Bochum did really struggle at times to find the net. They were held scoreless in 13 of their 34 league matches which was tied for the highest number in the league. It’s highly unlikely we see anything close to the kind of match we saw at this ground last season but if the hosts can get back to the high-standard of defensive football they displayed on this pitch last season then they should at least be able to keep this match from getting out of hand.
