Besiktas host Borussia Dortmund at the Vodafone Arena in Istanbul on Matchday one of the Champions League Group Stage. While the Turkish side finished top of their domestic league in the previous season, Borussia Dortmund earned qualification to the continental competition by finishing third in the Bundesliga. The home side have had a strong start to the new season and are at the top of the Super Lig with ten points from four fixtures. Besiktas come into the Champions League opener with a comfortable 3-0 win over Yeni Malatyaspor in the Super Lig. Mitchy Batshuayi scored a brace while Miralem Pjanic made his Besiktas debut against Yeni Malatyaspor. They have been scoring regularly and have netted at least three goals in three out of their last five matches in the new season.
Borussia Dortmund also have had a similar start to their new season. They find themselves in third place in the Bundesliga with nine points from four fixtures. Dortmund played a riveting contest with Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Bundesliga prior to this tie. Marco Rose’s side came back from a 2-3 score to win 4-3, riding on a brace from Erling Haaland. Dortmund have been scoring a lot of goals due to their direct approach but have also conceded a high number of goals at the same time. They have had more than 2.5 goals in each of their last six matches and have not managed to keep a clean sheet in their last five fixtures. The two teams are highly attacking minded and the fans can expect a goal-fest in Istanbul.
