Benfica will try to get back to winning ways in the Portugal Primeira Liga, when they welcome Braga in this round #21 fixture. Benfica are still top of the points tally with 54 points, while Braga are fourth with 34 points.
A 3-2 loss to bitter rivals FC Porto stopped a 16-match winning run of Benfica in the last round. That did, however, not taken them off the perch of the points tally. Benfica lead the league standings with four points, but will be aware of losing further ground. Regardless of the loss, Benfica are still top of the league standings in many other aspects too. They have the best scoring record of the division with 49 goals, while their defence too is the best with just 11 goals conceded. Playing at home, Benfica have won their last eight league games, six of those with clean sheets. The only time Benfica have failed to score a goal at home was against FC Porto way back in August.
Braga start the round with a lot riding on this fixture. They are holding on to the fourth spot, as the race for top-three heats up. Only three points separate teams from third to sixth, making every game a must for a high finish. Braga are, however, in good form with five wins and a draw in their last six league matches. Their away form is also improving with three wins on the trot. However, it won’t be straight forward considering Benfica aren’t done chasing her. Five of their last six matches, overall, have seen goals at both ends and the visitors will hope they can repeat that trick. However, beating Benfica might be stretching it a bit far for the visitors.
Benfica will be looking to bounce back from the loss to FC Porto in the previous round. Next up for them is Braga, who are fighting their own top-three fight, but it is the hosts who look good.
