Benfica Lisbon v Boavista Betting Tips [25 January 2022]

Benfica and Boavista will do battle at the Estádio Municipal de Leiria for a place in the final in this Portuguese League Cup semi-final match. Benfica hold the record in this competition’s short 14-year lifespan with seven titles won but haven’t made the final since their last triumph in 2016. Boavista will be looking to book a ticket to their first ever final but will have a tough task ahead of them as they face off against one of the giants of Portuguese football. The underdogs are currently sitting 11th in the league table with a 3-10-6 record and, somewhat bizarrely, have recorded four straight 1-1 draws - their last coming against Pacos de Ferreira away from home. The Panthers have been in a fairly good run of form at the moment and are unbeaten in their last six matches, although four of them were draws. Benfica are currently sitting third in the league table and are significant favorites for this one. Nelson Verrisimo’s side are coming off a 2-0 victory against Arouca and will look to keep up the positive momentum. 

Boavista have been in a good vein of scoring form and have notched in six straight matches. Despite only ranking 12th in the league for goals scored with 21 in 19 matches, they have been fairly consistent at finding the net. Boavista have scored in 16 of their 19 matches and have also struggled at keeping the opposing team from getting on the score sheet, only recording 4 clean sheets, all of which came at their home ground. Benfica shouldn’t have any trouble finding the net against Boavista as the Eagles boast a high powered attack, tied with Porto for most goals in the league at 52. Benfica have only failed to score in one of their league matches this season and have conceded 16 league goals, keeping seven clean sheets along the way.

We’re going to back both teams to find the net in this match. There is a good chance that Boavista are able to score here given their recent scoring streak and Benfica haven’t been entirely convincing defensively this season. Ultimately the Lisbon side should come out victorious in this one and we could see Benfica recording a 2-1 or 3-1 win.
