Bayern Munich have rallied to three straight wins to open up a seven-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga. Die Roten have taken advantage of the ill-form of their nearest challengers and with 2nd and 3rd, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen squaring off this weekend, Bayern could extend their lead further at home to mid-table Hoffenheim. The visitors come into this game in 11th after back-to-back victories and did beat Bayern Munich 4-1 back in September to end Bayern’s 23-game winning run.
18 points from the last 21 on offer has launched Bayern into a resounding lead and given their past a somewhat unassailable one. The record champions have bounced back from back-to-back defeats to Borussia Monchengladbach and then to Holstein Kiel in the DFB Pokal with three straight wins to take advantage of the struggling Leipzig and Leverkusen. With those teams struggling before even being considered title challengers and with Borussia Dortmund, the evergreen runners-up down in 7th it appears Bayern have a clear run to a 9th consecutive Meisterschale title. Bayern are on a four-game winning run at home coming into this fixture and are unbeaten at home since November 2019. Since then, Bayern have won 22 games at the Allianz Arena whilst drawing three.
As for Hoffenheim they have picked up six points from the last two games and have kept three consecutive clean sheets. Back-to-back 3-0 wins away at Hertha Berlin and at home to Cologne leaves Hoffenheim in 11th position level on points with Stuttgart who are 10th. With those wins, Hoffenheim are perhaps looking up rather than down the table as they are seven points above the bottom three. With a tough run of fixtures coming up those points could prove vital to Hoffenheim’s cause and they can look ahead to their Europa League tie with Molde next month.
