Atletico Madrid have their work cut out to get into the La Liga title race. They are fifth in the table and host Elche who are bottom-of-the table. The home side are 13 points off the top but only out of the Champions League places on goal difference. Since the La Liga season went into the World Cup break, there have been two wins over lower league sides in the Copa del Rey. Now they return to La Liga action and need to improve their form after a run of only one point from their last three league fixtures. The two losses incurred were both on the road at Cadiz and Mallorca. Only six of their 14 league games this season have been played at home. Two have been won, two drawn and a couple lost. Their last two on home soil have both been drawn. Their last five home league matches have all seen both teams score.
Elche aren't just bottom of the table, they are still waiting for their first La Liga victory of the season. They have just four points from their 14 league games and are seven points adrift at the bottom of the table and eight from safety. Since the World Cup break, they have at least had a couple of wins in the Copa del Rey but now it's back to their La Liga survival battle. Elche have lost their last three league fixtures. They led in their last league match at home to Girona but ended up being beaten 2-1. Only 10 league goals have been scored by Elche this season with 31 conceded. Away form has seen them pick up just two points from seven games but they have managed to get on the scoresheet in the last four. Back Atletico to get the win here and lead at half and full time.
