Serie A has produced some high-scoring encounters since it’s resumption and another barnburner is expected when 6th place Napoli travel to Bergamo to face the league’s top-scoring team; Atalanta who are currently 4th with 10 games left to play.
The home side emerged triumphant at the weekend with a 3-2 win away at Udinese meaning they have three wins from three since the restart. Atalanta are currently on a ten-game unbeaten run coming into this game and have won nine of those matches including eight in succession. They have now scored 80 goals in Serie A for the season and across their last eight victories they have scored 29 times, including four in each of their two Champions League last-16 legs with Valenica. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side look destined to clinch continental football again currently nine points above Roma who are 5th.
Napoli, meanwhile, may have to settle for Europa League football despite a five-game winning run in the league which has taken them to 6th on 45 points, 12 behind Atalanta and just three ahead of AC Milan. The newly-crowned Coppa Italia champions are being made rue their poor start to the season in these latter stages but with four successive wins on the road they will be confident of continuing on their flurry of form. The visitors have won each of their two league games since their return and have been victorious on each of their last two visits to this stadium.
There is no doubt that this game is the highlight of matchday 29 in the Serie A and I’m backing it to deliver with plenty of goals for viewers to digest. Both teams know where the net is and their free-flowing attacking football leaves both sides susceptible to counter-attacks at the other end so I’m backing both teams to score in this game and over 2.5 goals in the match.
