Aston Villa will host Premier League champions Manchester City in the 14th round of matches in the league. Villa go to the game placed 13th on 16 points and City are second with 29 points. This will be the toughest test for Villa manager Steven Gerrard since accepting the job. He has so far done well, with two wins in two, the most recent a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace. There’s still a lot of work to do defensively for Villa and Gerrard will know that well as he prepares for one of the best attacking sides around. Villa have just one clean sheet in seven matches and five of those seven matches have produced over 2.5 goals. Both sides have scored in five of Villa’s last seven matches and at home in the Premier League, they’ve scored in each of their six matches so far this season.
Manchester City are among the best performers in the league this season and they go to this game just a point shy of leaders Chelsea. They are coming from a 2-1 win over West Ham United, their fourth game in five to produce over 2.5 goals. City have scored in each of their last five matches, and netted at least two goals in each of the five. They however have just two clean sheets in those five matches. Manager Pep Guardiola will be looking to fix the defence as he prepares for a tough outing against a motivated Aston Villa side. They have scored at least two goals in each of the last three league matches away from home. City will be stronger, with Aymeric Laporte returning from suspension and they should enter this game as favorites.
A high scoring game is expected when these two sides face ff. The confidence in both camps will be high; Villa looking to extend the good run after Steven Gerrard’s arrival and City hoping to win and go top. Their matches ahead of this have been high scoring too and both sides scoring has been a common occurrence. Go for over 2.5 goals here.
