After a wretched run of form that has seen them move out of the top-four, Arsenal will hope to take advantage of Southampton’s poor run of form in round 13 of the English Premier League. The hosts are sixth in the table with 17 points ahead of this round, as Southampton start 19th in the tally with eight points.
The Gunners went into the international break with a 2-0 loss at Leicester that pushed them out of the top-four. The loss continued a poor stretch of form that saw Arsenal pick up only two points across four matches. Indeed, since the start of September, Arsenal have won only two matches. They have won two, drawn five and lost three of those ten matches pushing them down the points tally. The top-four spots are already eight points adrift, which means Arsenal can’t afford to lose this match or drop points. Thankfully, their record against Southampton has been exemplary with the Gunners not losing at home to the Saints since 1987/88 season.
Southampton’s recent form do not inspire confidence of changing that stat either. They have lost their last three matches and are winless in seven matches losing six. Additionally, they have one of the lowest scoring rates in the division with just 11 goals to their name. To make matters worse, Southampton have conceded 29 goals so far, which is the highest in the league. The only solace though is the fact that seven of their eight points have come away from home. That included a win at Sheffield United, who have proven to be a tough nut this season.
Arsenal coach Unai Emery has been cornered for better results and knows that he could be one loss away from being sacked. Southampton have been the punching back of late and this match could go the same way
