Two young exciting managers. Two former FA Cup winners and two ex-players hoping to attain their first piece of silverware as a head coach for their respective clubs. Mikel Arteta won back-to-back FA Cups with Arsenal in 2014 and 2015 and now he leads the Gunners to Wembley to take on four –time FA Cup winner Frank Lampard and Chelsea.
Arsenal are looking to add to their record 13 FA Cup wins and have lifted the cup in three of the last six seasons. The Gunners advanced to the final with wins over Leeds, Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Sheffield United before shooting down Arteta’s former side and current holders Manchester City in the semi-final 2-0. This will be Arsenal’s 21st FA Cup final winning both finals when facing Chelsea and they will be hoping to make it a hat-trick after a Europa League final defeat to their London rivals last season. A win would see Arsenal secure a spot in next season’s Europa League after their disappointing 8th place finish in the Premier League.
Chelsea, meanwhile, guaranteed Champions League football last weekend with a 2-0 win over Wolves and an FA Cup triumph would mark quite an impressive first season in charge for Lampard. Both managers are finding their feet and Lampard will have been delighted with his side who were business-like in their semi-final win over Manchester United a fortnight ago. Chelsea come into this game having won three of their last four matches similar to their opponents and they have won two of their last three meetings with Arsenal.
This game should be a really entertaining watch with two managers in the dugout who love to play football. Arteta has brought revived hope to Arsenal while Lampard has had a fabulous first season at Chelsea despite a few concerns. The first goal is going to be crucial in this final but I think both sides have the potential to score that goal and equally have enough to respond if losing therefore I’m going to tip both teams to score in this FA Cup final showpiece.
