The inaugural competition winners from 1950, Argentina led from the first quarter and were never in doubt of reaching the final. Incidentally, they remain the only side from the last eight to not have an active NBA player, which is a glowing tribute to their squad strength. Spain are also unbeaten in the tournament, but were on the verge of getting knocked out in the dying seconds of their game against Australia. A missed foul shot meant the game went into over time and Spain had the nerve to settle out. Marc Gasol continued his great tournament with a 33-point game, while Ricky Rubio continued his excellent all-round tournament with 19 points and 12 assists.
