An intriguing clash in the Champions League Group A sees Eredivisie champions Ajax facing off against a high-flying Napoli side at Amsterdam Arena in the Dutch capital. The hosts were unable to put an end to their winless run on the weekend against Go Ahead Eagles after being held to a 1-1 draw. This marks the first time that Ajax has gone three matches without a victory since December of 2020 with losses against AZ and Liverpool preceding their most recent result. They now face off against both the Serie A and Champions League Group A leaders Napoli who have been having a fantastic start and are yet to lose in the 2022/23 campaign. The Gli Azzurri recorded a 3-1 victory at home against Torino in their last outing on the weekend which saw them storm out to a 3-0 lead in the first 37 minutes of play. A win against Ajax would give Napoli a seven match winning streak in all competitions and would equal the longest the club has had since 2015.
There are definitely some concerns starting to pop up for Ajax supporters due to their results over the last three matches. While they are by no means in trouble in the league as they trail current leaders AZ by just a point, a loss against Napoli here would put them in a very tough position to qualify to the knockout rounds of the Champions League. They will have away trips to Naples and Glasgow as well as a visit from Liverpool as their remaining fixtures. Fans may look towards the fact that their two recent losses came away from home and de Godenzonen were unlucky not to take the full three points against Go Ahead Eagles on the weekend. However, the hosts have yet to be really tested at home this season and will face one of Europe’s most in-form clubs on Tuesday. Manager Luciano Spaletti has Napoli playing some wonderful football and should make for an interesting matchup between two teams that prioritize keeping hold of the ball.
