The match

The oldest and most played derby fixture in Italian football kicks off on Sunday as AC Milan host Juventus for matchday 23 in the Serie A. Milan know there is no room for mistakes as they currently attempt to hunt down leaders Inter at the top of the table. The Rossoneri are second in the table with 48 points and trail their city rivals by two points although Inter have a game in hand. Their last result was an extremely disappointing 2-1 loss at home to Spezia, in which Stefano Pioli’s side relinquished a first half goal lead to ultimately concede the losing goal in the 96th minute. Their opponents today have been in good form and have seen a run of six victories and eight matches without defeat in the league shoot them up the table and right back into the battle for the top four. Juventus currently sit fifth with 41 points, one point behind fourth place Atalanta, and are coming off a 4-1 victory against Samporia to advance to the quarter-finals of the Italian cup.

This is a tough match to call on the 3-way line and it’s reflected in the price. We can expect a highly competitive match here as both teams will be desperate for points to keep up the pace in their own respective battles in the league table. For this match, we’re going to highlight Juve’s improved away form in the Serie A and their recent goal scoring record. The Old Lady have now earned 13 of their last 15 possible points when playing away from the Allianz Stadium and have managed to score in every away league match this season. They’ve managed to score more goals (20) than at home (14) and have conceded more as well (13 away vs. 8 at home). Their rivals Milan have only failed to find the back of the net once at home in the Serie A, a 1-0 loss to Napoli, and have followed a similar trend to Juventus - higher scoring games as well as earning more points away than at home.

Key Statistics

  • Four of both teams' last five matches have seen both teams scoring.
  • Juventus have scored in 11 straight matches.
  • Milan have only kept one clean sheet in their last five matches.

The bet of our experts

We’re going to back both teams to score at this price which does still present some value. This is a match that should see both teams finding the net but ultimately could end in a stalemate. 1-1 is our prediction for the scoreline.
